Alexandra Lopes was born in 1973, in Portugal, and holds a PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics for a thesis on living arrangements and the well-being of older people in familialist social policy settings. She was up to early 2010 the Director of the Department of Sociology of the University of Porto, where she works as a senior lecturer. Her research interests and experience includes the analysis of inequality in old age, with a particular focus on theoretical and methodological instruments to address poverty in old age.She is also interested in the analysis of LTC systems, from a comparative perspective and particulalrly on methods to monitor performance of LTC systems.
Currently she is coordinating the Portuguese team that participates in the SPRINT consortium. SPRINT is a multidisciplinary research project, which aims to give meaning to the concept of social investment as applied to Long-Term Care provision.
